The ability to choose where and how we want to live is one of the cornerstones in our quality of life. As we age, our choices change, and we may need to consider things about our living situation that we haven’t had to consider before. That’s why a group of community stakeholders has come together for the past 12 years to present the Seniors’ Housing Forum. The Forum, held at the Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre, offers seniors, their families, and caregivers, a full day of information and resources free of charge.

On Saturday, September 22 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., the Seniors’ Housing Forum will feature presentations and panel discussions on the range of housing options and community resources available for older adults, and help individuals plan appropriately for themselves and others. Information sessions relevant to aging in the right place will be presented, featuring topics such as: seniors’ housing options, home modifications and supports, landlord and tenant rights, and practical resources that allow seniors to age in place and receive support in the community.

Home plays such an important role in our wellbeing and our lives. The Seniors’ Housing Forum aims to provide a wide range of information and resources for older adults to who want to stay well in their existing home, and to those who are interested in the variety of options for dedicated seniors’ housing. The Forum also gives attendees the opportunity to speak with more than 50 exhibitors about topics related to helping seniors sort out their living arrangements as they age.

All sessions at the Forum are closed captioned to ensure that they are accessible, and participants will also enjoy a free lunch, coffee and tea, and door prizes. Central Lions Seniors Recreation Centre (11113 113 Street) has ample parking, and is readily accessible by bus.

There is no charge to attend the Housing Forum, however this event grows in popularity each year, so registration for general attendance numbers is encouraged. Please call 780-809-8604 to register. More information about the event is available online.
